GDC 2010 Slides: Convergence of Flash Portals and Social Gaming

Here are the slides from my talk at the Social Gaming Summit at GDC 2010. It was a good crowd in a very large room.

take care

  1. Very interesting slide-show there, would have liked to hear the foot-notes/discussion points for each side also.

Interestingly it would seem that Zynga games is currently dominating this market.

I'd like be interested a discussion/thoughts of the Zynga games/business model in a future post.

  2. Interesting presentation. Would have loved to hear it.

  3. Do you have any accompanying audio? Interesting presentation for sure, curious as to where you got the metrics. Thanks so much for sharing!

  4. Would love to hear the voice or read the foot notes for each slide. Very nice work.

  5. Interesting presentation. You write some insightful stuff. Keep up the good work!

  6. I'm sad to see you advocating Address Book mining as a means of growth. Especially the example you used in which the default seems to be a checkbox already ticked for "contact this person".

This is about as close to "preselect an option to trick me into spamming all my friends" as makes no difference. That's a really poor long term growth model and a horrific user experience. If we must have "mine address book" at least advocate some best practice and have boxes unticked.
