GDC 2010 Slides: Convergence of Flash Portals and Social Gaming

Here are the slides from my talk at the Social Gaming Summit at GDC 2010. It was a good crowd in a very large room.

Very interesting slide-show there, would have liked to hear the foot-notes/discussion points for each side also.

Interestingly it would seem that Zynga games is currently dominating this market.

I'd like be interested a discussion/thoughts of the Zynga games/business model in a future post.

I'm sad to see you advocating Address Book mining as a means of growth. Especially the example you used in which the default seems to be a checkbox already ticked for "contact this person".

This is about as close to "preselect an option to trick me into spamming all my friends" as makes no difference. That's a really poor long term growth model and a horrific user experience. If we must have "mine address book" at least advocate some best practice and have boxes unticked.
